Writing coach

I can coach you while you work on your project. We can work on your chapters and structure and I will guide you through the writing process.

Manuscript assessment

I can give you an assessment that will help you develop all elements of your project, such as:

• structure

• point of view/narrative

• character development

• plot

• language

• world-building

• writing style

• audience/message

 This is an overall report that you can use to work on your project (no comments in the project itself).

 

Developmental/structural editing

This is the most in-depth kind of editing. I will provide comments and suggestions on your project as well as a report to help you develop your story further. This service does not include fixing any grammar, punctuation or spelling issues, though there will be feedback about it.

Copyediting

This kind of editing focuses on spelling, grammar and punctuation. It also includes notes about language and writing style. This does not include any feedback on the structure, plot, characters or other such elements.

Proofreading

This is the final step of the editing process. It's generally done when the manuscript is already laid-out (I can proofread in Indesign or on a PDF). Proofreading covers catching those final typos, inconsistencies, missing punctuation and marking up any design issues such as orphans and widows.

Background and experience

I became a qualified editor and writer in the early 2000s, but I have been an avid writer and reader my entire life. I have a diploma in Professional Writing & Editing (RMIT), a master's degree in Creative Writing (RMIT) and a postgraduate degree in Editing & Communications (University of Melbourne).
